03 November 2008 - NextWindow´s Multi-touch Gesture Software

NextWindow´s SDK Support

NextWindow´’s SDKA multi-touch gesture software development kit (SDK) is now available to independent software vendors (ISVs) and industry partners. The SDK enables independent software vendors to develop multi-touch features, removing the barrier between man and machine.

The multi-touch gestures SDK enables ISVs to implement multi-touch functions to current or future applications, offering developers a more intuitive interface between man and machine.

"With NextWindow´s multi-touch capabilities, ISVs can move beyond the limitation of point and click", Said Al Monro, CEO of NextWindow "and offer new features such as pinch, swipe, or zoom to enlarge text, advance through photos, or adjust an image all courtesy of multi-touch".

With its multi-touch gestures SDK, Nextwindow is setting the stage for ISVs to develop new and exciting applications by allowing new ways to interface with your computer like never before. Nextwindow is the only company that provides multi-touch capabilities for large format displays with digitizer support for Microsoft´s Windows XP and Vista as well as future versions of Windows 7.

New Zealand tech company NextWindow confirmed today that it has secured a contract to provide PC touch screen technology to global giant Hewlett Packard.

HP TouchSmart PCIt is now seeking to raise $4 million in fresh capital for further expansion and development.

NextWindow technology is used in the HP TouchSmart PC, which was unveiled by Bill Gates at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last January. Since then there has been speculation in the US press that NextWindow was the technology provider, but the company only confirmed its involvement today.

NextWindow chief executive Al Munro says the deal with HP is valued in the "multi-millions", adding that all going well it would be "substantially more that". He says the company has been seeking to raise capital for the past 12 months, but says it is not connected to fulfillment of the HP contract.

The TouchSmart PC is only available in the US and UK at the moment, but should arrive in Australia and New Zealand in the next few months. According to Mr. Munro, it is already exceeding expectations in the market.

And he says there is still "a lot of headroom" in applications for the company´s technology.

"The HP contract is in the volume market, which are the smaller touchscreens." We´re also targeting the global interactive whiteboard market, which is a huge market.

Mr. Munro says he received a direct approach from the division of HP responsible for the TouchSmart PC following earlier work done for another division.

We didn´t have to convince them that we had the better technology, we just had to convince them that we had the ability to scale to meet their requirements on a contract.

"We are not renowned as a high-tech country so it does take people a little by surprise that there is a technology like this coming out of New Zealand", Mr. Munro says.
